  1. Action points from MST3

  1. Per will update the status of the work and Deliverables and particularly about UniBonn to the PO.

Done and feedback from our PO was received. Dale would like Per to bring up the foreseen delays of the UniBonn's delivery times as well. Action point.

  1. Manola will investigate and discuss how to transfer EURO4M SLP observations to ECMWF.

This has been done by UEA and data have been converted to ODB as reported in the Scientific report received by Per. ECWMF has received the data.

  1. Per will contact ECMWF (Manuel Fuentes) on how to be able to archive MO, SMHI and COSMO RRA data in MARS.

Done. Richard Mladek is working with some test data from SMHI and MF. Jan Keller has made contact with ECMWF. MO data will be archived in GRIB-2 as agreed.

  1. Andrea will ask WP2 and Uni Bonn to put their available products (also from EURO4M) covering at least 2008-2009, at least the parameters required for preliminary evaluation, to ECMWF for MARS archiving.

SMHI has sent the data (HIRLAM RA) and MF MESCAN data and it is being worked on.

  1. Per will disseminate the Dissemination Plan to the MST.

Done.

  1. Per will compile a template for the Scientific reports and send it to the MST.

Done.

  1. Manola will compile practical information about the GA in Tortosa and Per will send it out to partners at the end of October.

Done.

  1. How to archive UERRA and access them for WP3 (also EURO4M data)

This has been dealt with above.

  1. Update of work in the WPs

WP1 has had one more Delivarable, the list of stations to be digitized. There are more data coming from Slovenia and Germany and Catalonia. Already 3M data have been digitized. They are hourly/3 hourly pressures and precipitation. Half of the latter before 1951, half after.

Phil has sent a quite extensive report about the conversion of EURO4M data to ODB and about interpolation of precipitation (among other things).

WP2 at the MO is progressing according to plan and the reanalysis system will be ensemble 4D-VAR and the new dynamical core will be used. The suite has been set up and archiving at ECMWF is being dealt with. The SMHI work is behind schedule but the first parallel runs for the physics ensembles are about to start. The Deliverable is delayed by more than 3 months, probably 6. Scientific questions about large scale constraint and vegetation have or are being dealt with but there have been many technical issues on setting up the system and on the output parameters and files, before the MARS questions are solved. MF has made a lot of tests and on how to connect with the output files from SMHI for their high resolution MESCAN analysis.

WP3 has a deliverable at M15 (software packet) but is depending on the data input (from MARS) with the defined data (from the WS in July) before it can be demonstrated. The validation method code in R is not the main problem. Christoph and Ole Einar will be involved and coordinated with.

Again, we pointed out the unfortunate M48 Delivery of the MARS archives; one can see it as a continuous process where more and more data are added all the time.

In WP4 there has been work on user oriented climate indices based on large gridded data sets. A data survey and plan will be made in cooperation with the CLIPC project at KNMI and there was a WS in November dealing with ESGF data. The Deliverables 4.2 and 4.3 will be delayed some months and Else van den Besselaar is only back after New Year. The data services issues and visualization will be discussed at KNMI and with ECMWF. There is visualization possible of some EURO4M data and there was work on this for the GEMS project.

For WP7 (Dissemination), please remember to list meetings and publications relevant to UERRA and send to the Coordinator (for the web site and reporting).

WP8 should have the first User WS later in 2015 (autumn) and planning for this will be later with KNMI and DWD.

WP9 (Overarching) held a telephone meeting 27 November and now Jean-Noẽl Thepaut was in the meeting as well, which is very useful now that ECMWF is designated Copernicus center and Jean-Noel is in charge of this at ECMWF. Inter alias meetings were discussed, and one technical CLIPC is 3-6 March and in early (2-3) July there is a WS on observations to bu used for reanalysis.

  1. Planning for the GA in Tortosa

The progamme is in development and MET Norway and ECMWF (and KNMI) have yet to have their talks defined. Per is contacting them.

  1. Deliverables

They are mentioned in the Progress report abover.

  1. Periodic Report and Scientific report

The template was sent out and replies are expected for the 15 December, or if some cannot make it. Early January. The Coordinator needs to compile the reports for the ESAB, our evaluator and probably for our PO as well.

  1. Overarching coordination

Dealt with above.

  1. Meetings and communication

Many are attending meetings not financed by UERRA but where UERRA is mentioned. The will be the WCRP meeting in Sydney, the EGU meeting, adjoint DA WS, and the AGU meeting (next week), the climate meeting in Paris next July and of course the EMS meeting in Sofia in September where Andrea is involved in the committee.

There are regional reanalysis efforts with MO cooperation in India and S Korea and meetings connected with them.

There has been a CHARMe meeting at ECMWF right now and CORE-CLIMAX holds a collocation meeting in Brussels in January (15-16).

  1. Publications

Again, list of publications relevant to UERRA are welcome

  1. Other items

  2. Next meeting

In connection with the GA in Tortosa.

  1. Action points

Per to update our PO with delays of the Deliverables (Univ. Bonn).
